MMA Equipment Review | We Test Twins.

First impressions last.  The second that we removed both pairs of gloves from their packaging we were completely impressed with them.  The Twins gloves literally reek of quality -the first thing we noticed was the strong new car smell that attacked our noses harder than a Bernardo Mikixi over hand right.

The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is second to none.  The gloves are handmade in Thailand where Muay Thai is the National Sport so it is no wonder the gloves are produced with all the care and attention to detail you could ever want.

The resounding theme that came from every demonstration or brief “Wow can I try them on?” fitting was the quality.

MMA Training Gloves.

These gloves must be the most beautiful and comfortable gloves we have ever slid our keyboard calloused hands into.  The literally fit like a glove and are so soft and instantly manipulated into any shape you need.  Balling our hands into a fist was simple to execute from the get go.

They offer a three step fastening system which provides extra support on the wrist area which is incredibly important when banging away at heavy bags, pads and G ‘n P dummies.

The protection that they offer is also out of this world. There is enough padding to provide professional level protection without compromising the MMA glove feel.

They are not completely opened palmed which makes sure the shape of the glove will always hold.   Each finger is independent of the others ensuring ease of movement when going from stand up to different positions and locks on the ground (The gloves also come with thumb support as an optional extra.)

These Twins gloves truly are a wonder to behold and we would recommend them to anybody looking for a high quality training glove that they will not need to replace in the foreseeable future.

We would recommend that the tightest fitting glove is selected as they do stretch quite a lot once you start using them.

MMA Sparring Gloves.

At first these gloves seemed completely disjointed and nonsensical, the fit was strange and the shape they formed on our hands was a little disconcerting. This was until we used them for a few hours.  The gloves suddenly made sense.  They really are a very carefully crafted glove that serves its purpose with maximum efficiency.

Once your hands are wrapped the comfort and fit indicators climb drastically.  They too are made of genuine leather and are handmade in Thailand.

Again the padding is sufficient to offer protection for your hands as well as you sparring partners well being without being too bulky, for seamless ground work.

They have a completely opened palm design and fingers are slid into individual loops which are spaced far enough apart to allow for individual finger movement.

They have a single lock Velcro fastening system which makes getting them on and off really easy.

Sparring is the foundation for all MMA fighters and the Twins Sparring gloves will allow you to take sparring to a new level.

When we went to fetch the gloves from Fighting Twins in Sunninghill we were completely blown away by the shop.  It is more a boutique than a fight gear retailer.  Like the gloves that they sell attention has been paid to every detail and customers are made to feel welcome and completely at ease.  We were so impressed that we have decided to put some photos of the shop up.  If you are looking for gloves for any combat sport or training requirement Fighting Twins should be your first stop.

Trade enquiries are also welcome and can be directed to Louis Swanepoel on Louis@fightingtwins.com or (011) 803-8151.
